Joliette plant announces partnership with CARA to help protect the Saint-Jean River
Bridgestone Americas’ Joliette, Quebec (Canada) passenger tire plant and CARA (the Corporation d’aménagement de la rivière L’Assomption) announced a new partnership to help protect the Saint-Jean River. The river covers a 73 square kilometers territory and is located in the municipalities of Lanoraie and Lavaltrie.
Over the next four years, the Joliette plant will provide $20,000 in financial support to CARA to help support water resources protection projects on the river.
“We are very proud to participate to this project which rallies the companies of the region,” said Robert Verreault, Plant General Manager of the Joliette Plant at the press conference. “This project to help protect the important natural resources of the Saint-Jean River is in line with our company’s global environmental mission - ‘to help ensure a healthy environment for current and future generations.’”
The project, called Parrain’Eau (Water Fostering), aims at protecting and valuing the intervention territory under the responsibility of the CARA. Over the next four years with the financial support of the BSAM Joliette Plant, the CARA will be collecting data on this river in order to evaluate the territory, to establish issues and priorities and ultimately to develop an action plan to manage the river in the future.
As member of the board of the CARA organization, the BSAM Joliette Plant has been a lasting supporter of CARA for many years. The company has also contributed to CARA projects including, the construction of the CARA pavilion, the winter festival Festi-Glace and the Fishing Festival during summer.
