Ag Tire Teammates Give During The Holidays

The Agricultural Tire Division of Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations in Des Moines, Iowa spent their holiday season gathering food, supplies and gifts for people who are less fortunate.

In November, the Des Moines plant participated in Combat Hunger, a food drive for the Food Bank of Iowa.  The Des Moines teammates responded with enthusiasm to a 48-hour challenge to provide needed food items to Iowa families just before the Thanksgiving holiday. Combat Hunger aims to increase community awareness of Iowa’s critical hunger problem, and to do that, they facilitate community-wide involvement in a massive food and fund drive in support of the Food Bank of Iowa.

After Thanksgiving, teammates continued to donate food and supplies, and the items were delivered to Hope Ministries Homeless Shelter. Hope Ministries Homeless Shelter anticipated serving and delivering more than 2,200 meals during the Christmas holiday to low income and homeless families in Des Moines.

During December, the Des Moines plant partnered with United Way and the Young Women’s Resource Center to adopt a family for the holidays. The team provided warm clothing, toys, and coats for a single mother with six children. As the collections came in, the drop off site started to look like Santa’s workshop, filled with brightly wrapped gifts.  The teammates hoped the gifts made the holidays a little brighter for a family in need.

Along with the Adopt-A-Family, the Des Moines Plant also donated $1,000 to the Young Women’s Resource Center. The monetary donation will be used to buy 20 car seats for low income families and to provide support for a program called “Little Passengers Car Seat Safety Program”. The donation will also provide the education and training required to install the seat as well as safely place the baby in the seat.
